One of the home’s most unique features is the handmade copper bathtub, ideal for a relaxing soak after a day of exploring. The tub and shower are fully functional, though they are compact and require a higher step to enter and a larger step down to exit. The shower space is snug, and the tub floor has a slight tilt, which may make use less comfortable for some guests. That said, it’s perfect for drawing a warm bath and unwinding.
The screened-in porch invites you to relax to the sounds of the nearby stream, or step outside to enjoy the spacious grassy yard, ideal for lounging, picnicking, or fishing (with an NC license).

This was such a wonderful and unique place to stay! I loved the screened in back porch where you can hear the sounds of the creek that runs along the edge of the property and has a great view of the mountains which was lovely during a sunset. My only issue was the same as others which is the tub being difficult to stand in and get out of. The tub itself is beautiful, but I couldn’t find a useful way to stand when taking a shower. This threw my balance off each time when trying to wash my hair. It’s also challenging to step out of. I was thankful others mentioned it so I knew to expect it. You could hear some road noise, but it never bothered us. We used the box fan at night and heard nothing outside. It was also very well stocked with extra towels and paper products. This was very much appreciated! It was totally worth it, and such a great place to stay. The history of it was great to learn, too. Christy was an amazing host! Very quick response times. Wonderful experience!

The School House is full of charm and has such a peaceful, country setting. The spring is just to the left of the property, and the screened-in back porch is a lovely place to relax and enjoy the surroundings. The home sits below the a house and an RV/camper area, but we still felt very safe, comfortable, and relaxed during our stay. The bathtub was especially relaxing and a wonderful touch. One thing to keep in mind is that, unless it has been updated, the hairdryer does not get warm or hot, so I would recommend bringing your own—especially during the colder winter months. It was perfectly fine for our early fall visit. I would have enjoyed having a few simple baked goods or snacks available for guests, as that would have been a thoughtful added touch. Overall, the School House is a charming and relaxing little getaway, has natural spring water and we truly enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere!
Thank you for opening your home for us this past weekend. It was a much-needed getaway for my me and my wife. We fell in love with the house as soon as we pulled up. The house is quaint and romantic. Everything was perfect from the kitchen to the beautiful back porch. The charm and quiet of the house was just what we needed to relax and we were sad to leave. (We appreciated that you shared the history of the house too. That added so much to the ambiance of the home.) The location was ideal and allowed us to enjoy a day in Asheville and Waynesville. We hope to visit the property again. It was truly a storybook cottage, and we thank you for your hospitality!
The Schoolhouse is one of the best Airbnb's we have stayed at. It's charm and peaceful surroundings provided just the rest and relaxation we were looking for. We will be back in the near future. Christy was very proactive in wanting to meet our needs, but honestly, everything was so perfect we did not have to ask for anything from her. Thanks for sharing your little red school house!
Great little house, very clean would definitely stay again.
Wow! This schoolhouse was beyond enchanting. So very unique and interesting. Loved learning about the history of the place, and all of the decor matched the times which made it even more special. We absolutely loved our stay. This place was stunning, spotless, and incredibly comfortable. We can’t say enough good things about the bed. We slept soundly every night. Every detail was so well thought out, which made it easy to settle in and feel right at home. Ah, the sound of the river running by was magical and relaxing, with such beautiful landscaping to top it all off. Wonderfully sweet touches all over this place. We highly recommend this Airbnb, and can’t wait to return. 5 HUGE stars!
Great vintage and historical place! Charming decor and comfortable for two. Loved the historical perspectives!!
This is a great place to stay. The weather was wet but it was beautiful. The school house is designed beautifully and adds to the back country relaxation. We will definitely stay here again soon.
It was beautiful! Quiet and just what we needed for our first vacation after raising the kids.
It was such a delight to be able to stay in the Schoolhouse! We enjoyed learning about the history of the home and the restoration efforts! Dinner and breakfast recommendations were delicious and close to the home. We are so hopeful to be able to visit in the years to come!
